Sonic Generations is the final main series Sonic the Hedgehog game released for the 7th generation of consoles. It follows Sonic as he teams up with his past self to fight Dr. Eggman once again, only this time he has managed to gain control over a powerful time-traveling entity known as the Time Eater and has been wreaking havoc across their timelines in an attempt to undo all of his past defeats, also alongside his own past self.

In this game, every level that you play through is a reimagined version of previously encountered stages in the Sonic franchise, such as Green Hill Zone and the Chemical Plant. There are 2 styles to play in: Modern Sonic's stages play in the modern boost style that has been present since Unleashed, and Classic Sonic's stages play in the more retro 2D style reminiscent of Sonic's early days.
