Army of TWO is centered upon two mercenaries fighting through war, political turmoil, and a conspiracy from 1993 to 2009. Focusing on cooperative strategies, Army of Two's main feature is the necessity to use coordinated teamwork to accomplish the game's goals. While the game is meant to be played with another human as a partner, a "Partner Artificial Intelligence" (PAI) is also included and programmed to follow the player's strategies. Dependence on a partner (whether human or PAI) is so pronounced that most objectives are impossible to complete without it.

Army of Two is one of the first games released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles that feature region-locked online play. EA claims that the region-locking is to prevent network lag caused by players from multiple regions, and to prevent the Asian region console owners from playing the U.S. and European version of the game, as the Asian version has been censored to meet certain requirements (notably, the shooting of already dead bodies in the game). On August 11, 2011, Electronic Arts shut down the online multiplayer servers for the game. A sequel titled Army of TWO: The 40th Day, was released on January 12, 2010.

Known Issues

Issues as of build RPCS3 build 0.0.8-9390:

  • Bloom Issue: The most common issue, that persists as of RPCS3 build 0.0.8-9390 is the bloom issue, in which a strong white bloom makes the game almost unplayable by how hard it makes it to see. This issue can be fixed by enabling the "Write Color Buffers" option. However, it has been reported that -in previous builds- this increases the likelyhood of crashes.
  • Audio Stuttering: This issue seems to be tied to framerate and can be mitigated by enabling most options that usually help with stutter. However, in spite of this, the audio issues still plague this title and a more blanket solution is still to be found.
  • Other minor issues: parachute scenes can't be controlled in co-op mode, leading to the player crashing against walls and most likely dying. This is due to RPCS3's current lack of sixaxis support, and the game having the sixaxis control turned on by default. Just disable motion controls in the options menu to make this scenes playable. Also the screen appears to be cropped by a bit, which can't be changed neither in the in-game options menu, nor by enabling the option "Stretch to Display Area"
