You play as Isaac Clarke, an engineer part of a team sent on a mission too repair the famous and oldest planet cracker, The USG Ishimura. Not all things went according too plan though. Their ship crashed into the cargo hold of the Ishimura, badly damaging it. Isaac and his team survive but the Ishimura is abandoned. No crew around too be found. Isaac is then tasked to pull up a diagnostics report of the Ishimura when a monster, know as a Necromporph, attacks one of the team members. Isaac runs away but is the separated from the rest of his team but is still able to maintain radio contact. They need to work together to figure out how to get off the Ishimura and escape this nightmare.
